Ok, Ok, maybe the Spectrum Analyzer isn’t a secret per say, but you would be surprised how many people don’t know how to use it. The one found in Ableton Live is especially great. It gives you read outs of key / frequency position and dB levels when your mouse is hovering over the spectrum graphic.

Let’s learn how to figure out what the root key of almost any sample is by using this useful information. Once you know the root key you can use your favorite sample to create an instrument from the sample or you can rest assured that it fits the key of your track…. and, if it doesn’t, you should be able to pitch shift it until it does!
